Yet another heartbreaking story of a medical mistake has hit the media. Carolyn Savage of Ohio has successfully delivered a baby who was conceived through an embryo mix-up. My heart goes out to all of the people who are directly affected by this tragedy. While news stories have only briefly touched on the mistake by the clinic, I have other questions: Why was Mr. Savage alerted to the mistake by telephone rather than in person? Did the clinic consult with an attorney before “coming clean” with the bad news? What apology and restitution have been offered to both families? And, of course, what can be done to prevent such a thing from happening again?
What are your questions?
